Melbourne Avenue Wet Weather Project
Logansport, IN
This project involved the construction of over 5,000-feet of stacked 120” diameter pipes to store wet weather flow to comply with their combined sewer overflow long-term control plan. These pipes filled automatically when the downstream system lacked capacity to convey wet weather flow. These pipes were installed at depths up to 30-feet and parallel to an active train track and in front of businesses and homes. The project also involved the construction of a lift station to convey the captured weather flow back into the sanitary sewer system. Other improvements involved jacking and boring a new sanitary sewer underneath the train track and connection to the existing combined sewer, three bar screens, odor control system, and three vertical turbine pumps. Extensive coordination was required with the railroad to ensure uninterrupted service and the overall stability of the track.
