F.A. Wilhelm Construction In-House Design Team

With the rising popularity of design-build in construction, Wilhelm’s in-house design team has been hard at work providing our clients with architectural, structural, and civil design services.

Among the many project delivery methods that exist in construction, one that has become the fastest growing and continues to out-perform other traditional methods is Design-Build (DB). In a nutshell, Design-Build means the owner manages one contract with a single entity, as opposed to two contracts with the designer and contractor separately.

Design-Build allows the designer and contractor to work together from the beginning, which leads to more collaborative problem solving, unified project recommendations, and a 61% faster delivery speed according to the Design-Build Institute of America.

“It also allows us to respond faster to clients and help them make more informed real estate and facilities decisions,” says Architect Stephen Causseaux, who makes up the Wilhelm Design Team alongside Civil Engineer Kris Holeyfield and Structural Engineer Mike Meyers.

Over the last two years, Wilhelm has completed DB projects such as the Ascension St. Vincent Parking Garage, the Carmel Civic Square Parking Garage, a large warehouse fit-out in Greenwood, and a prefabricated building in Cambridge, IN.

“We are finishing up a 1.2 million SF warehouse in Plainfield this month as well,” said Causseaux. “That project will be getting LEED Silver certification.”

When asked why he wanted to become an architect, Stephen said that art and design has been a lifelong passion that simply makes him happy.

“I became interested in building design as an artistic endeavor later in high school and decided to pursue it as a possible career in college,” he said. “I actually went to college to become a professional tennis player, so life has a lot of twists and turns.”

The Wilhelm Design Team has created a solid core of personnel in the last year and plans to bring in one more architect before the year is over. In 2024 Wilhelm will start construction on a higher education Chiller Plant, while also pursuing other DB projects with a pharmaceutical client, University of Indianapolis, Amazon, Crider & Crider, and Community Hospital.
