F.A. Wilhelm Construction sponsors female in The Latinas Welding Guild

The Latinas Welding Guild was founded in 2017 by Consuelo Poland, a Guatemalan-born functional artist and welder with the goal to empower women personally, creatively, and economically through welding. Having seen firsthand the struggles of the Latinx Community, she formed the Guild to create a space of equal access and education for women, particularly minority women, in what is a heavily male-occupied field. Currently, 96% of certified welders are male and the income discrepancy between male and female welders is around 28%. The Latinas Welding Guild exists to help low to moderate-income Latinas and non-Latina women gain access to welding skills and certification preparation.

As part of F.A. Wilhelm Construction’s commitment to diversity and growing the construction workforce, we are sponsoring a woman who is currently enrolled in the welding program. Samantha Alba is a Cheesemaker at Paramount School of Excellence in the Brookside neighborhood. Samantha always had an interest in construction working on her own home and a variety of other construction projects. She looks forward to learning welding skills and increasing her knowledge of the construction process.
