Deep Dewatering Pump Station

Fort Wayne, IN

Fort Wayne’s combined sewer overflow plan included constructing the Deep Dewatering Pump Station, transferring water from a five-mile tunnel to wet weather ponds under a Guaranteed Savings Contract. The project involved installing four 10 MGD pumps 250 feet underground in a 60-foot diameter shaft, with a building and electrical room above. A precast shaft with stairs and an elevator provides access, and an adjacent 25-foot diameter shaft houses a raker system to block debris. A 20-foot x 10-foot box culvert directs water to stormwater ponds, constructed within a 45-foot deep, 40-foot wide, 500-foot-long excavation.
