Duke Energy Cayuga Generating Station

Cayuga, IN

Wilhelm served as general contractor on this project, which is an important Duke Energy plant providing electrical power to a wide area in two states. Duke Energy engineered several environmental upgrades installed by Wilhelm, including a wet flue gas desulfurization system and a selective catalytic reduction system to treat flue gas exhausted from the station boilers. Much of the equipment and structures required deep foundations to carry the loads. These deep foundations consisted of 414 caissons, averaging four-foot diameters, to depths of approximately 70 feet.

The project also included 49,000 cubic yards of concrete with deep caissons, mass concrete foundations, walls, pedestals and miscellaneous concrete foundations, including electrical, mechanical and structural embedments.
