Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians & Western Art Expansion

Indianapolis, IN

Founded in 1989, the Eiteljorg Museum aims to inspire appreciation of the art, history, and cultures of North America’s Indigenous peoples and the American West. The museum needed major expansion and renovation, doubling gallery space, and adding a performance center and restaurant.

Wilhelm, serving as general contractor, oversaw the project, which included a new 300-person circular sculpture court for performances, a 90-seat café with a catering kitchen, and three acres of gardens with a terrace leading to the Central Canal. They also constructed sun sails and performed demolition, excavation, concrete, and steel work along the Canal Walk on the Eiteljorg patio.

“The Eitljorg is proud of its building, and many consider it one of the most important buildings in Indianapolis and in the world of museums. I think much of the credit goes to F.A. Wilhelm and their quality, attention to detail, and desire to meet the vision of the architect. I have always been impressed by Wilhelm’s commitment to go above and beyond and their quality of workmanship and project management skills.”
