Indianapolis Motor Speedway Legends Plaza

Speedway, IN

The Legends Plaza renovation was part of Project 100, a much larger renovation project the Indianapolis Motor Speedway began in 2013 to prepare for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2016. The goal of Project 100 was to provide more modern amenities and technologies for fans while retaining the historic nature of the track they love. The pavement is one of the most striking features of the plaza. Inside the gate, Wilhelm crews installed 100,000 SF of decorative concrete paving set in a checkered flag pattern.

Wilhelm and the design team collaborated with the client to create an open space at Gate 1 to facilitate event ticketing, necessary for the roughly 300,000+ fans onsite during race day. The area also provides flexibility for non-event days, serving as a public open space, event venue, and the front door to Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
