Speed Art Museum

Louisville, KY

Founded in 1925, the Speed Art Museum is Kentucky’s oldest and largest art museum, noted for its modern architecture and interactive exhibits. The museum required an expansion to double its footprint, involving renovations and new construction.

Wilhelm managed the multi-phased expansion. Phases I and II included a 63,000 SF concrete and structural steel frame, tripling gallery space and completing the visitor center with a café and catering. Phase III added a 12,000 SF museum gallery with a 140-seat theater, a new parking garage entrance, revised utilities, an underground storm drainage system, and a central utility building for steam and chilled water.
