The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

Indianapolis, IN

Founded in 1925, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is the world’s largest children’s museum. The museum required renovations and expansion, including transportation, soil retention, shipping/delivery, patron access, exhibit relocation, and a new entrance.

Wilhelm served as the construction manager, overseeing the expansion of the passenger drop-off area, installation of a soil detention drainage system, freight access improvements, construction of a walkway over Illinois Street, relocation of the public library, and construction of a new visitor’s entrance and Welcome Center. Challenges included maintaining the functionality of the Welcome Center and walkway over Illinois Street. Wilhelm coordinated the work to keep the museum operational, also completing a new parking structure, exhibit space, and a state-of-the-art Space Object Theater.
