Upper Pogues Run

Indianapolis, IN

As part of the Citizens combined sewer overflow long-term control plan there was a need for 2.0 MG of wet weather storage at Brookside Park. This storage was achieved by installing a 60-foot diameter x 120-foot-deep storage tank in Brookside Park. The slurry wall and shotcrete lining were installed by the tunnel contractor and then turned over to Wilhelm for completion. Our work involved the completing the work associated with the storage tank, which included:

  • Installing an 8’ thick concrete mat in the bottom of the tank
  • Installation of two jet mixing pumps
  • Two dewatering pumps and discharge piping installed up the tall of the tank
  • Spray wash system to wash down the tank bottom once it drained
  • Construction of three diversion structures onsite to direct flow to the tank through 42”-60” Hobas piping
  • Cutting a hole in the slurry wall to accommodate a 60” drop pipe over 80’ tall inside the tank – the opening in the wall was 40’ below grade
  • Installation of a cover over the tank consisting of concrete encased steel beams (W40x503) and precast planks
  • Installation of three horizontal bar screens to remove debris before it enters the tank
  • Modification of twelve CSO regulator structures within residential neighborhoods to direct flow to the tank
  • Installation of multiple, self-performed earth retention systems to construct or modify diversion structures
  • Installation and maintenance of a temporary dewatering system within the tank to remove rainfall and infiltration through the slurry wall
  • Construction of an electrical and maintenance building within the park
